Results so far on my version of Chef AJs Ultimate Weight Loss Program

So how have I been doing since beginning with my version of Chef AJs Ultimate Weight Loss program?  Mentally, Im worlds better!  Physically, Im on the right track.

I mentioned in yesterdays post that I have had a bad relationship with food and food cravings.  This program has helped with that tremendously, along with being vigilant to not look at food blogs.  Instead, I have been enjoying reading some knitting and home improvement blogs.  Overall, I feel like I am more in-tune with my bodys needs and have consistently been eating only when truly hungry.

Since starting the program, I am down 7 lbs and have been steadily losing from week to week.  Along with actual weight loss, I have been feeling slimmer overall, as if what I have been losing has been only fat that has been holding on for a while.  My clothes have been fitting better, even to the point that one of my favorite pairs of jeans were too lose even after a wash and dry.  I think that I still have a good 20-30 lbs to lose before I get within a comfortable healthy weight, but I am encouraged to keep on my same path and let that happen over time.

Another physical change that I have noticed is my skin.  Since I was 15 or so, I have been dealing with acne of some sort.  Some times have been better than others, but I have always had a blemish or pimple on my face to deal with or cover up.  After starting the program, I havent had a single breakout.  As if weight loss wasnt motivation enough!  It has been so nice to use minimal makeup and to not be self conscious of my face.  I have felt more confident as a result.

One thing that has helped me a lot to stay on track is planning my weekly meals ahead of time.  By this I mean my lunches and dinners.  My snacks and veggies for breakfast change up daily depending on what veggies and fruit I have on stock.  For lunches and dinners, I have been batch cooking many of my essentials including brown rice, baked sweet potatoes, as well as soups and chilis.

For brown rice, I cook it once a week in my pressure cooker, generally making 8-12 cups in the end.  I leave about 2-4 cups in the fridge and freeze the rest in 2 cup portions in baggies.  Over the next week, I pull out and defrost what is needed.  Kevin eats quite a bit of rice although he is not following my same plan, so we go through my stock pretty regularly.

The sweet potatoes I either bake 4-6 at a time and store them in the fridge until I need them, or I have been taking raw potatoes to work and baking them in our toaster oven in a pinch.  My sweet potatoes are generally my favorite food within a day.  Often I chop them up and add them to my soup or chili, eat them plain by themselves, or top them with a vegetable or bean based sauce (like Chef AJs Yummy Sauce).

The chilis and soups I have been making include my favorite Three Bean Chili, Summer Vegetable Corn Chowder, Potato Leek Soup, Mexican Pinto Bean Soup, and Creamy Broccoli Soup.  The nice thing about most chilis and soups is that my husband will eat them, so I dont have to worry about his meals very much.

Thats all for now folks.  Ill be coming back later next week with a few more posts about some fun traveling, crafts, and home improvements we have been doing.  See you next time! :)

Health and Happiness,

Amy

Weight Loss for Men Why Is It So Difficult

When it comes to weight loss for men, men have a slight advantage over women, but there are still plenty involving challenges that men need to be aware of. Genetic endowment, genetics and our own bodies could work against us. While weight loss for men is not impossible, you will need to have a well-constructed plan to reach your own goals.
The first thing men who are trying to lose weight need to understand is that our body is programed to work against us every single step of the way. You see, an incredible number of years ago when we ate determined by our ability to hunt and accumulate, famine was not uncommon. Back and then, when our bodies sensed a famine coming because we were having less food, our bodies would react by storing fat, burning muscle tissue and slowing down our metabolism.
Unfortunately, our bodies react the same manner today. When you go on a diet, you reduce your calories. After you do that, your bodies think there exists a famine coming, and in an hard work to help you survive the shortage, your body will hang on to fat, burn muscle and slow straight down your metabolism.
So why does your body hold on to fat? Because it knows which fat is a good source of energy and your system can live longer on these fat stores. Unfortunately, when you go on a diet, you are looking to do away with fat, not store it, but thats exactly what happens.
So why does your body burn off muscle? It burns muscle because the item knows that muscle requires more muscularity to support. Do you remember the previous saying "muscle weighs more which fat"? Well, it is legitimate. Not only does muscle weigh additional, but it also helps you burn up more fat.
The problem is when you embark on a diet, as we mentioned, your body hangs on to fat and burns up muscle. This is the EXACT complete opposite of what we want to happen. In reality, for every 12 pounds you lose on a diet, 5 pounds of that weight loss was muscle. The bad news is that 5 pounds of muscle used to shed 250 calories per day. Said another way, for every 5 pounds of muscle you burn your current metabolism is now 250 calories per day slower.
The math doesnt stop with 12 pounds either. When you lose 24 pounds, you burn 10 pounds of muscle and your metabolic rate is now 500 calories per day slower. When you 36 pounds, you burn 15 pounds of muscle and your metabolic process is now 750 calories per day slower.
This is known as the hunger response. Your body thinks it will be starved and it has gone in starvation mode.
It soon becomes mathematically impossible to lose weight. We see this all of some time. Someone goes on a diet. They reduce their calories and they lose some weight. After a while, as their bodies are getting rid of muscle, the weight loss slows and eventually it stops.
The dieter becomes discouraged, and goes off the diet. The really bad newsworthiness is that their body has currently burned a ton of muscle, so their rate of metabolism is now slower than it has been before they went on the eating plan so they gain back all in the weight they had before the diet, in addition to quite often, even more.
In a few months they find a new diet and the cycle starts once again. This is known as yo-years old dieting.
The trick would be to find a way to eat healthy and inform your body that it OK to reduce fat and hang on to its muscle.
Fortunately, modern science has found an essential amino acid that does exactly which. Taken in the right form and the right amounts this essential amino acid actually flips the hunger response and tells your body "We have been now reducing our calories, but its OK. Go ahead and burn body fat, and keep the muscle".
The results of this are you build a lean, strong healthy body and your system becomes efficient at burning fat.
So if this amino acid is really efficient at helping our bodies reduce fat, retain muscle and increase our metabolism, why isnt everybody using it?

Because it is very difficult to acquire this essential amino acid in the right kind and in the right quantity. While it is available in many foods, modern food processing techniques heat this essential amino acid and render it ineffective or they dont provide it in enough variety or in the right format (existing with other amino acids) for this to do its job.

Day 83 of Meta!!! Ah so close!

Guess what am doing?!!!

HA HA - Im doing dance cardio!!! :) How does Tracy manage to look so elegant when she is doing it? :)

Today I asked my bf to take some pics while I was jumping DC. And to be honest, I was a little shocked. :) I look sooooo funny. God, couldnt stop laughing. I dont look like I am working out, I look like Im a child jumping on a trampoline... being silly too... And then look at the video.... OMG!

So, all in all, I have to say, I look ridiculous... And it is on day 83 of Meta - so I am supposed to be quite good in DC by now... But I still look like a little hippopotamus in training leggins jumping away :) Funny. :) But still, you have to agree - the view behind is breathtaking

Enough of making fun on my account... Lets get serious :) After overall three classes of tennis, I finally was able to return to every-day TA work outs. My muscles are still sore a little, but not too bad really. Tennis was fun, but returning to Meta feels good. I think I will try to combine it all now - I just needed my muscles to stop aching so much after every time playing tennis.

The MS in level 9 still kills me. I actually found arms quite hard - cant say I had that feeling ever since level 2 or 3... So, that is still a surprise: day 3 of level 9 and I still can hardly do the arms, and start screaming by the end. At the same time, abs seem quite doable - easier than in level 7 or 8. But the legs section. BOY!!!!

The very first exercise, which started in this position
... and then you have to kick your leg up...

So, my working leg actually didnt feel too much - but the supporting leg on the mat was killing me after 5 reps already!!!! I was shocked!!! Cmon - first exercise and in level 9 and it kills me?? Grrrr!

The rest of MS feels more doable - tough, but doable at least...

Off to work now again. Sigh.
